UCWVA-UVA Holds Labor Day Teach-In, “Lessons from Labor History at UVA”

On Labor Day 2020, UCWVA-UVA’s Labor History Working Group gave a virtual teach-in on the history of labor activism at UVA and what our current unionization movement can learn from it. The key questions: how did things get this way, and what can we learn from the past to make the future better? UCWVA-UVA members Rosa Hamilton, Joseph Wei, Connor Kennaston, and Crystal Luo presented on Labor History at UVA from its founding through to today, emphasizing the interconnectedness of economic and racial justice, the importance of broad coalitions and solidarity amongst staff, students, and community members, and the dangers of disunity.
