Virginia higher education workers who join UCWVA become part of a fighting union that is standing up for higher education statewide. Our members organize for shop floor wins in their departments and buildings, while also lobbying for lasting legislative change at Virginia’s General Assembly. All our members have access to new member monthly orientations, monthly organizing trainings, and fully democratic rights to self-governance at the chapter and local levels.
"Power grows from organization. Freedom is never given. It must be taken. And therefore you only get what you are organized to take!"
Willie Baptist, National Union of the Homeless
The decision to pay dues is a material decision to recognize that you share interests with your co-workers – that you can have power in organization. It’s taking a position that matters, when it matters.
In UCWVA, a month’s dues is the equivalent of a worker’s wage for one hour of work – that’s 1/172nd or .0058% of your income going towards your worker organization.
